Overview

1. Easy access – no waiting list

Referrals can be made directly, or clients can self-refer following your recommendation.

2. Free counselling for Medical Card and GP Visit Card holders

The first session is an initial assessment to identify needs and agree an appropriate treatment plan. Clients present with a range of issues including:

  • Relationship distress and trauma
  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Communication and conflict
  • Parenting and family concerns
  • Child mental health and learning difficulties
  • Separation and divorce
  • Bereavement and loss

For those without GP Visit or Medical Cards, sessions are heavily subsidised and offered on a means-adjusted contribution basis.

3. Solution-focused, evidence-based approach

Therapy is tailored to each client and delivered in weekly sessions. Sessions are typically structured in short blocks, with regular review to assess progress and ongoing need. Most clients experience positive outcomes within 8–10 sessions, although this varies depending on individual circumstances.

4. No predetermined outcome

We provide an impartial, professional service to support individuals and couples in reducing distress, improving communication, and making informed decisions that support their overall wellbeing, family relationships, and child outcomes where relevant.

We are passionate in our commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion and serve everyone in need regardless of gender, sexuality, religion, race, membership of the Travelling Community, civil status, family status, age, or disability.

Safety, suitability, and safeguarding

Relationship Care is committed to providing safe, ethical, best-practice relationship counselling. All our specialist relationship counsellors are trained and experienced in assessing for and working appropriately with relationship safety concerns, including domestic abuse, coercive control, and other unsafe behaviours.

As part of our assessment process, we consider suitability for couple work and the safest way to provide support. Where concerns about unsafe behaviours are identified, we prioritise safety and clinical appropriateness. In these circumstances, counselling is provided safely on an individual basis and in person only, with clear boundaries and safeguarding procedures in place.

Where clinically indicated, we may recommend alternative or additional supports alongside relationship counselling. Where needed, we support clients to access additional specialist services and the most appropriate care pathway.

Professional referrals are welcome, and we are happy to discuss suitability or risk considerations prior to referral.
